Literature WalesThe national society of Welsh writers, this offers a wide range of support for Welsh writers and writers in Welsh, including courses, competitions, conferences, author tours international exchanges, reading and literary performances. It also funds Welsh-based literary events and writers residences and an innovative scheme for talented young writers, called 'young writing squads'.

is delighted to announce that the 2013 Cardiff International Poetry Competition is now open.

The 2013 Cardiff International Poetry Competition will be co-judged by former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew MotionEnglish poet, novelist and biographer; Poet Laureate of United Kingdom from 1999 to 2009; during his laureateship founded the Poetry Archive, an online resource of poems and audio recordings of poets reading their own work and National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke.

The Competition offers one of the largest monetary prizes for a poetry competition of its kind. First prize is £5,000. Additional prizes are £500 for second place, £250 for third and five runners-up receive £50 each. All entries to the competition will be judged anonymously, so this is a great opportunity to have your poetry judged on its own merits.

You have until Friday 15 February 2013 to write your prize-winning poem and give yourself a shot at £5000, publication, publicity and a real feeling of achievement. The prize-winners will be announced on the Literature Wales website during summer 2013.
