WritersServices has launched a revamped website with more than 4,000 pages of information for writers.
The service also offers a weekly update and a monthly magazine.

WritersServices founder Chris HolifieldManaging director of WritersServices; spent working life in publishing, employed by everything from global corporations to start-ups; track record includes: editorial director of Sphere Books, publishing director of The Bodley Head, publishing director for start-up of upmarket book club, The Softback Preview, editorial director of Britain’s biggest book club group, BCA, and, most recently, deputy MD and publisher of Cassell & Co. She is also currently the Director of the Poetry Book Society; During all of this time aware of problems faced by writers, as publishing changed from idiosyncratic cottage industry, 'occupation for gentlemen', into corporate business of today. Writers encountered increasing difficulty in getting books edited or published. Authors create the books which are the raw material for the whole business. She believes it is time to bring them back to centre stage. said: "Over the 12 years the site's been in existence, the world has changed radically for writers. In 2001 a writer's main problem was finding an agent and it was a cosy little world in which publishers knew best and, providing you could get an agent to take you on, your book would be sold and you could assume that your editor would make sure your manuscript was in good shape. Then you could sit back as the publisher's sales force went to work and assume you would make a small living at least, and perhaps over the years a more comfortable one, from your writing.

"Now everything is different and writers need to know what's going on in publishing, bookselling and the web. They need to keep up to date with massive changes which will affect their own prospects. More than that, they have big decisions to make and, whether they publish traditionally or self-publish, they will need to work much harder to prepare their own work for publication. Then they will have to find their audience and sell their work."

WritersServices offers a range of 19 editorial services, from reports to copy editing, to submission critiques, blurb and synopsis writing, from manuscript polishing to typing and contract vetting. It also offers "a comprehensive self-publishing service at a reasonable price".

Registration at the site is free, and the weekly newsletter is free too.
